Building in to the next generation

 

Educational outings at Garden & Agri World offer a “hands on” experience to children of all ages and development stages.  Our program will not only inspire creativity in the garden but will plant the seed to cultivate a love for nature and our natural world as well as also facilitating an educational program where children can learn about the horticultural and agricultural industry in a fun learning environment.  We offer three programs for the students who visit us.

Each program can be adjusted to the age and development phase of the child.

NOTE : Children are to pack their own lunches, only tea and coffee will be provided to educators, compliments of Garden & Agri World Alternate refreshments, food and cakes are available to educators at the tea garden at their own cost.

 A complimentary ice cream will be given to each child at the end of day

Program 1 – General farming (Age range 5-8 years)  –  Duration approximately 3 hours

 

This program covers the following activities :

An age-appropriate lesson on general farming and animal care.

A practical component where the children plant-up a pot plant and learn the

basics on how to care for the plant.

A practical component where we tour our aviary and animal farm facility where

the children can interact and learn about the animals as covered in their lesson

above.

A practical component where we tour our show gardens and allow the children

to explore and see the practical application of plants in the garden space as covered in their lesson.

A lunch break and time in the play area is also included when they can play and

eat their own lunch box goodies.

Ice cream is served at the end of the day as a sweet treat.

Cost per child : R60.00

Program 2 – Growing plants  – a more in-depth program. (Age range 9-13 years)  –  Approximately 4 hours

This program covers the following activities :

A lecture on growing plants which will cover plant care, propagation and how

to start your own garden.

As part of the above lecture a practical component will be demonstrated where

the children will plant their own plants, learn how to care for the plants as well

as the importance of soil quality, watering and being water wise, also how they

can implement this knowledge into their home garden.

We tour our aviary and animal farm where the children will learn how plants

are used to feed and enrich our animals’ lives.

A tour of our show gardens will also be done where further emphasis and

practical implementations of their earlier lecture is shown to the students.

A lunch break and time in the play area is also included when they can play

and eat their own lunch box goodies.

Ice cream is served at the end of the day as a sweet treat.

Cost per child : R80.00

Program 3 – An alternative needs program catering for children who require more specialized attention towards learning. (Any age can participate)   –  Duration approximately 2 hrs

This program covers the following activities :

This program focuses on introducing the world of plants, gardening and a

love for nature through their senses.

Each learner is given individual attention and guidance through the activities.

This program is completely flexible and can cater to children’s needs and

current phase of development.

Focus will be placed on sensory components : touch, smell, taste and visual.

There will be time for a lunch break and to play in the play area (for those who are able) and eat their own lunch box goodies.

Ice cream is served at the end of the day as a sweet treat.

Special requirements are to be communicated to Garden & Agri World in

advance to ensure that this experience is a fun and enriching one for the

 learner.
